Professional trainer and natural bodybuilder Will Tucker will appear at The Cutting Board on Friday, November 15 at 6pm. During the free event, Tucker will tell his story of transformation, how’s he’s become a professional natural bodybuilder and the role of nutrition in getting fit. Tucker’s wins include the 2011 OCB Arizona Men’s Masters Overall Champion and First Place in the 2013 Naturally Fit Super Show 40+ Division. (In natural bodybuilding, the athletes are drug and polygraph tested. No steroids allowed.)
Though many athletes believe they need to consume large amounts of animal protein, Tucker says what we need is readily available in a well balanced plant-based diet with complex carbohydrates and moderate amounts of protein and healthy fats. Tucker is often asked where he gets his protein. “Lentils, nuts, seeds and vegetables are all sources of protein,” says Tucker. “I believe in getting macro nutrients from whole food sources. When people eat too much protein, the kidney and liver is taxed to excrete the excess. What’s not used gets stored as fat,” he adds. Though exercise is necessary for a healthy lifestyle, Tucker says that 80% of being fit is through nutrition. As a certified ACE personal trainer, he helps his clients develop nutrition plans that fit their individual preferences and needs.
Tucker has been a vegan for three years and a vegetarian for five years before that. First he stopped eating pork, then red meat. One year after a traditional Thanksgiving meal, he saw a National Geographic special about how animals are born. “It touched my conscience in some way I hadn’t considered,” says Tucker. He hasn’t eaten meat since.
The Cutting Board will be serving whole-food, plant based foods and juices during the event.
